Empaths do tend to be more susceptible to generalized anxiety disorder, because we can be influenced by others’ anxieties we pick up on and repeat these patterns as our own until they become the dominant programming. In other words…
If we spend enough time around an anxious person or anxious people… without enough self awareness, we take their anxiety as our own.
Empaths tend to be more prone to anxiety because also we’re sensitive to a whole extra dimension of reality on top of the regular one. And in this one, we directly feel energies around us. This sensitivity can make us feel the need to tip-toe around people and environments wherever we go.
Most empaths don’t fully understand their ability and how it works. All they know is letting the energies in their external reality have their way with them and think that there’s something wrong with them.
Empaths can feel others’ anxieties and fears and don’t always recognize when it’s not their own. Once you’re locked into a fear-based mindset, it’s hard to think objectively and realize you absorbed someone else’s emotional energy.
What’s the solution for overcoming anxiety as an empath? Learn as much about anxiety as you can and try to pick up on symptoms of anxiety in yourself and respond to them.
If you’re an empath who deals with anxiety, I know you would get a ton of value out of joining Empathology: an online training and community for empaths with myself and empathic healer Seek Cindy starting March 1, 2017. It’s a 3-month course hosted on a private Facebook group you’ll have lifetime access to.
